"High-Fructose Corn Syrup" is just another way of saying "Nectar of the Gods."
Across the Heartland of America, thousands of corporately-owned farms are growing ridiculous numbers of corn crops.
Why?
Besides getting to sell it as corn-on-the-cob, frozen corn, canned corn, creamed corn, corn meal, corn chips, corn tortillas, Corn Nuts and corn dogs, we get SUBSIDIES from the federal government to grow it IN THE FIRST PLACE.
As long as they're willing to give companies like us U.S. dollars to grow corn, we'll grow all that they need- and then some!
We all end up with crazy surpluses of corn on our hands.
I know you'd like to think that all that corn gets turned into ethanol, reducing our dependence on foreign oil, but NO.
Instead, we render it down to high-fructose corn syrup to be used as a sweetener in Coke, Pepsi, Twinkies, Ho Ho's, Fruit Loops, Count Chocula, Twizzlers, Stretch Armstrong, A1, Heinz 57 and thousands of others of food and beverages- not to mention, our new FlavaJones Snack-halents.
Don't worry- we're sure that pervasively working complex sugars into every aspect of Americans' diets won't lead to an explosion in obesity and contribute to diabetis, heart disease and other chronic illnesses that crowd our hospitals and run up health insurance premiums for both sick and healthy alike.
